Port of Zhoushan sea area lies in the coast of southeast China, on the mouth of Hangzhou Bay, and is the position on 30°00'30''N, 122°06'00''E where the Yangtze River, Qiantang River and the Yong River run in the sea. This area is back onto the Yangtze River delta, the T-type conjunction of the Yangtze River economic belt and the eastern coastal economic belt. Its direct hinterland is one of the areas with the greatest economic vigor and potential for development, where the economic development level is the highest in China.

Port of Zhoushan sea area locates on the conjunction of the main coastal channels and the “golden waterway” of the Yangtze River. It is very convenient traffic for port of Zhoushan which is 130n miles north away from Wusongkou of Shanghai, 433n miles away from Tsingtao, 688n miles away from Qinhuangdao, 824n miles south away from Guangzhou, 476n miles away from Xiamen. Its distance of the international air routes from Hong Kong, Keelung , Busan, Osaka and Kobe are less than 1000n miles, while its distance from the port of America , Oceania, Persian Gulf, Eastern Africa , etc. is about 5000n miles. There was prolific deep water coastal line which is 183.2 km and ascendant natural port conditions which is 1538km for Port of Zhoushan,

Port Zhoushan has long histories, and always is the important ports for external trade of China. It has been many rebuilding and capital overhauling since new China was founded. During the period of “mass port production in three years”in the early 70's last century, and after the reform and opening of China, there are two tides of port construction in Zhoushan port, which cause the Zhoushan port to develop fast. Along with the further development of the national economy, Zhoushan port has stepped into the phase with the high speed of development since the 90's last century. Zhoushan port is now one of the bases for mass bulk cargo (raw oil, mineral, coal, rice etc.) and crude oil, log, transfer in Yangtze River delta and the re-gions along the Yangtze River. There are 8 harbors in port of Zhoushan including Dinghai, Shenjiamen, Laotangshan, Gaoting, Qushan, Siqiao, Lvhuashan and Yangshan, total berth for cargo operation is 352 with 11 more than 10,000 Ton.
